Welcome to Detours and Diversions
Through this blog I hope to inspire, entertain and enliven your imagination in ways that will enhance your (hopefully) horizon-broadening quests on travel, culture, food, well-being and life-style – through little detours and diversions.
Having lived and traveled around the world for more than 40 years, it is now time to share places, experiences, interests and insights with others.
I am an ex-pat American having lived in Montevideo, Brussels, Paris, Frankfurt, Moscow and my travels have taken me to many more countries near and far, often for extended periods. I now live in Germany in the Taunus Mountain area, in a small town sandwiched between two historical spa towns. During the past several decades Marseille, where I travel regularly to visit relatives, has become a second home. I grew up in California’s Central Valley, known as the Raisin Capitol of the World, and still have family there that I visit regularly.

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.
